What they said ...

"The muscle and music and metaphor of Vulcana was evocative. Lighting a perfect complement to sound. A gripping, graceful, and intelligent performance. A quiet revolution. Bravo."

"I loved the big, hard, technical circus stuff - I haven't seen a Vulcana show on that scale before, and I was very impressed!"

"I loved Small Change - great to see so many women of all ages working together. I loved the soundtrack and the symbolism, and the Powerhouse backdrop worked really well."

"Its always great to see positive gender awareness initiatives and particularly when presented in such a creative way."

"A very moving and entertaining performance."

About the Show

Small Change is a show about women’s work. And these women have unfinished business...

Rarely seen on stage (or wall), Small Change shares the stories of thirty awe-inspiring women. They labour at domestic chores, fight invisibility, scale great heights, expose their fury and fight, and relish the satisfaction of passion-felt work.

They hang off the Powerhouse walls, they dance and move, they immerse themselves in circus ingenuity and those that were once invisible become very very present.

Small Change has evolved from stories shared. People have spoken of past battles for equal pay, the ongoing stubborn gender pay gap, the perceived value of ‘women’s work’ and the little known story of Stolen Wages in this state. Real issues, faced by real women, everyday.

Come and see thirty women sew, clean, fold, type, climb, balance, build, fight, struggle and win on the wall, stage and sky of the Brisbane Powerhouse Plaza. After all, women’s work is everyone’s (unfinished) business.

Every show was AUSLAN interpreted.
